SHINE A LIGHT ON POINT ARENA LIGHT STATION

Lighthouse Recognized as Finalist for JELD-WEN’s Historic Restoration Program

WHAT:           The tallest lighthouse tower on the West Coast, Point Arena Light Station is a finalist in a coast-to-coast search for lighthouses in need of restoration. Built in 1870 to serve as a navigational aid to a hazardous peninsula following the boom of the Gold Rush Days, Point Arena is one of 12 finalists with the opportunity to win JELD-WEN’s Reliable Lighthouse Restoration Initiative. To increase its chances to win, Point Arena Light Station needs local community support as the decision deadline is quickly approaching.

WHEN:           Public voting will take place on www.jeld-wen.com/lighthouse through September 7. Fans of Point Arena Light Station are encouraged to cast a vote, as well as share photography and videos to show support. Public support will help JELD-WEN determine which of the lighthouse finalists will ultimately receive new JELD-WEN windows and doors, designed to withstand the harsh coastal conditions Point Arena Light Station endures every day.

WHERE:        Each person may cast one vote for Point Arena at www.jeld-wen.com/lighthouse. Photos can be shared on the Flickr group of JELD-WEN Reliable Lighthouse Restoration Initiative. To share videos that will be posted online, please send 1-2 minute VHS tapes, DVDs or electronic viewing files to:

HISTORY:     The JELD-WEN Reliable Lighthouse Restoration Initiative began in 2005 as a way to preserve these beloved U.S. landmarks with the latest in window and door technology, and help restore the original architecture and performance of the historic structures. The next lighthouse selected for restoration will follow in the footsteps of three impressive lighthouses: Umpqua River Lighthouse on Oregon’s southern coastline, Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse in Maryland on Chesapeake Bay, and Wind Point Lighthouse in Wisconsin on the shore of Lake Michigan
